Will Berdecia

Will Berdecia – OTVA Jax Director

After a baseball injury forced Coach Will to leave college and join the United States Navy, he began to play beach volleyball at the Naval Base in Virginia Beach.  Coach Will played for the All Navy Men’s Volleyball Team from 2005 until 2012.  After being transferred to Mayport Naval Station Jacksonville in 2009, Coach Will began to coach club volleyball and has continued to do so ever since.  When not coaching club, Coach Will continues to hone his coaching skills by coaching high school varsity volleyball.  Recently, Coach Will has come full circle as the coach of the All Navy Men’s Volleyball Team in 2017 and 2018.  For the 2017-2018 Club Season, Coach Will’s U14s team placed 5th at the AAU National Volleyball Championship and 10th in the USA division of the Girls’ Junior National Championship for USA Volleyball.  Never tiring of the game, when not coaching you will find Coach Will (and Coach Gil) at the beach, where they … of course … are playing beach volleyball.

Gil Bermudez

Gil Bermudez

Coach Gil is originally from Puerto Rico.  After graduating from Bayamon Military Academy  in 1989 he joined the United States Navy. After he was injured trying out for the  All Navy Basketball Team in 1991 he watched a pick-up beach volleyball game and decided to jump in.  Coach Gil immediately fell in love with the sport.  Shortly after he began to learn and train every day.  A year later he tried out for the All Navy Volleyball Team and was blessed to traveled around the world representing the United States Navy and playing indoor volleyball.  Some of the countries he traveled to and played in include Italy, Greece, Japan, Dubai, Bahrain and a few others.  In 1995 the Naval Air Station Jacksonville base travel team lost their head coach a week before the South East tournament.  As the team captain Coach Gil convinced the director to allow him to coach the team.  After an intense week the team won the championship and Coach Gil realized how amazing it felt to coach the game he loves to play and he never looked back!  In 2016 Coach Gil took his U18 team to the Girls’ Junior National Championships for USA Volleyball.  In 2018, Coach Gil coached the All Navy Men’s Volleyball Team.
